Job Description: Full Time Organizer with the Philadelphia Student Union

Job description: Organizer will be responsible for leadership of two school-based chapters.

Qualifications required: *Experience with group facilitation and popular education techniques in running and designing interactive workshops. *Experience with young people from diverse ethnic and class backgrounds. *Working knowledge of Philadelphia public education system. *Understanding of and experience with community organizing. *Experience developing leadership of others. *Good writing and communication skills. *Ability to work independently, self-motivate, and be detail and task-oriented.

Requirements include: *Recruitment and base building to build chapter numbers. *Using PSU’s curriculum as well as designing workshops to train youth in leadership skills, anti-oppression skills, and political education. *Attending and facilitating school based meetings of youth on a weekly basis at their schools. *Willingness to learn, adopt and implement PSU’s organizing framework and model. *Building relationships with youth leaders, school and district personnel, community members, clergy, and elected officials. *Overseeing the development and implementation of school-based organizing campaigns in each chapter school. *Participation in and support of (as needed) other PSU academic and personal programs and retreats for youth members. *Assistance with maintaining PSU office and regular office hours. *Attendance at relevant coalition and school district meetings as needed. *Ongoing and consistent communication with PSU’s Executive Director and Assistant Director.

A plus: Direct experience with Philadelphia public schools as a former student, teacher, or in some other capacity. Campaign-based organizing experience.

Salary and benefits: Salary is negotiable based on experience. Good benefits package.
