In honor of Obama and MLK – lessons from the past and the current economic crisis

In honor of today’s historic inauguration and yesterday being Martin Luther King day, I wanted to share with folks a piece NPR did on the Poor People’s Movement. In a time when people are still suffering from poverty in massive amounts, people are losing jobs, we’re in an economic crisis, and our energy and money in this country is being diverted to war rather than solving these situations, I want to tell our new president he has a tough road ahead but there are many before us who had a vision on to create CHANGE. Rev. Joseph Lowery, who gave Obama’s amazing benediction after his inaugural speech, is quoted and there is also an audio piece with a slideshow attached. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91626373

I’ve also attached Rev. Lowery’s benediction as a video
